Iconosquare is worth examining first when scheduled reporting is a major part of the job. Later deserves a closer look when Instagram publishing is central and you can plan around the manual finishing required for particular Reels. The choice becomes clearer when you specify the post formats and the report someone actually needs to receive.

Use the same Instagram Business or Creator account type in both evaluations. Later's Instagram analytics require one of those professional account types, and its Reels and Stories reporting starts on Growth or Scale. A comparison using Later Starter for a Reel-heavy reporting job would understate the plan you need. Later Instagram analytics.

Compare four concrete outputs

Consider a small brand producing a feed image, an original-audio Reel and a trending-audio Reel each week, followed by a monthly performance report. One person prepares the content and a colleague reviews it. This illustrative workload puts publishing and reporting requirements in the same decision.

Scroll sideways to compare every column.

OutputWhat to establishWhy it changes the choice
Feed imageEligible account, preview and approval pathA saved post still needs the right destination and sign-off
Original-audio ReelSupported media and automatic-publication settingsA prepared video may be publishable without a final phone step
Trending-audio ReelHow the Instagram sound is selected and attachedThe scheduled time may be a reminder for a person
Monthly reportIncluded formats, history and delivery formatA dashboard view may not be the deliverable the client expects

Keep a separate line for approval requirements. The colleague might only need to comment, or the business might require a formal publishing gate. Those are different purchases.

Reels: count the work left at publishing time

Later documents automatic publication for eligible single-video Reels with original audio. To add trending audio or Instagram-native finishing, use its notification workflow and complete the post in Instagram. Put that final step on a person's calendar, especially for evening or weekend posts. Later Reel publishing.

Iconosquare documents automatic Reel scheduling as well as a reminder option. Its Reel guide gives platform-specific instructions and media requirements; it does not establish that every Instagram editing feature is available through automatic publishing. Iconosquare Reel scheduling.

For the sample week, label the trending-audio post as requiring an explicit workflow check in either evaluation. Ask the vendor to show how the exact sound will be attached, then check whether that produces a live post or leaves a mobile task. Do not treat audio already baked into a video as proof that the post will carry the intended Instagram sound attribution.

This distinction prevents an unrealistic time-saving calculation. If someone still needs to finish three posts each week, include that recurring handoff in the decision even when the caption and media were prepared in advance.

Reports: compare the file, then the history

Iconosquare's current plan page places automated reports on Launch and post-approval workflows on Scale. It describes PDF and XLS exports for profile and custom-dashboard reports, with one year of analytics history on Starter and Launch, and two years on Scale. Iconosquare plans.

Later's standard Instagram analytics include CSV export on Starter, Growth and Scale. Starter limits post performance to the last 30 posts within three months; Growth offers a year and Scale two years. Reels, Stories and hashtag performance require Growth or Scale. Graphs cannot be exported as files from that standard view. This limitation does not establish that Later lacks every custom or shareable reporting option. Later analytics and exports.

If your client expects an emailed PDF, ask to see that exact deliverable on the proposed plan. If your analyst imports rows into a workbook, inspect the CSV fields instead. Either format can be appropriate; rebuilding charts manually every month is an additional operating cost when a finished presentation is required.

Also distinguish retention from historical backfill. A plan allowing a year of history does not by itself establish that a newly connected account will immediately contain a full year of every metric. Ask about the formats and dates that matter to your report.

Match the eligible plans before comparing prices

For the sample brand, Iconosquare Launch answers the documented automated-reporting requirement, but mandatory approval workflows point to Scale. Later Growth is the minimum current tier in the cited analytics guide for Reels and Stories performance. Confirm the intended review workflow separately. Obtain prices for the same currency and billing term, with the correct profiles and users. Do not convert a regional Iconosquare display into an assumed US tariff. No matched-currency bill is established here, so a price winner would be premature.

Shortlist Iconosquare when automated report delivery and a formal review process drive the purchase. Shortlist Later when its publishing workflow suits the team and its eligible reporting tier delivers the required output. For the broader products, read our Iconosquare review and Later review.
