Yes, you can prepare and schedule them, but the publishing method matters. In Buffer, Later and SocialBee's documented workflows, native Story music, links and interactive stickers require you to finish the Story in Instagram. A scheduled reminder tells you when to do that. Eligible photo and video Stories can publish automatically without those additions. Sources: Buffer, Later, SocialBee.

The practical question is whether someone can be available at publishing time. If a campaign depends on a clickable link or a poll, put that final step on the calendar too.

For broader buying criteria, see our best Instagram schedulers.

What publishes automatically?

“Automatic” means the scheduler publishes without someone opening Instagram. “Notification” means a person receives an alert and completes publication. Account type, content format and the selected features all affect the result.

Creator support is an important difference: Later's Story guide requires notifications, while Buffer and SocialBee document automatic publishing. Do not assume that every scheduler treats professional accounts identically.

Music on a Story and music on a Reel work differently

Buffer now documents automatic Reels with music selected from Instagram's audio library. The Instagram account must be Business or Creator and connected through Facebook. Connecting through Instagram login does not meet that music requirement.

That exception applies to Reels. Buffer still directs Story music to its Notify Me workflow. Its Reel music picker also starts playback at the beginning of the track. Choosing a specific section requires notification publishing. Available tracks can differ by account and region, and the documentation currently lists web and Android support, with iOS support still forthcoming. Buffer's music guide.

Music availability also has a separate rights constraint. Meta says its licensed music library is intended for personal, non-commercial use, and access can be restricted for some business accounts, post types and regions. Check music appropriate for your intended use rather than assuming a visible song is cleared for every campaign. Instagram's licensed-music guidance.

A URL printed into an image is just part of the image. A clickable Story link needs the interactive link feature. Similarly, a graphic that looks like a poll cannot collect votes by itself.

For these three tools, plan to add native interactive features in Instagram. SocialBee specifically says Story link stickers cannot currently be scheduled through its direct workflow. Later lists links, polls, stickers, music, user tags and location tags as additions made during notification publishing. SocialBee, Later.

You can still prepare the creative beforehand. Leave a clear space for the sticker and write down its destination URL, label or poll options. That reduces the number of decisions left for the person publishing.

Which tool fits this workflow?

Buffer

Buffer makes the distinction visible through Automatic and Notify Me. It also supports placeholder notes for additions you will make in Instagram, such as a song choice or link. This is useful when the creative is prepared by one person and finished later. Buffer's mobile scheduling guide.

Later

Later offers desktop Story planning through its Post Builder and Stories Timeline. Its current Story guide requires a paid plan, limits automatic Stories to Business profiles, and says Story collaboration and approval features are unavailable. A team should check that last limitation before adopting it for client sign-off. Later's Story requirements.

SocialBee

SocialBee documents direct Stories for Business and Creator profiles, plus reminder publishing for Personal profiles. Its mobile reminder settings let you choose the person who receives notifications, either across accounts or separately for each profile. That is a useful detail when assigning responsibility for interactive Stories. Story publishing, notification recipients.

A workable reminder-publishing checklist

  1. Prepare the media and list the native elements needed for each frame.
  2. Select the notification or reminder publishing method.
  3. Install the scheduler's mobile app, enable its notifications and check the receiving device. Buffer provides a test-notification option.
  4. Assign one person to finish publishing and confirm the scheduled time and time zone with them.
  5. Open the reminder, confirm the correct Instagram account, select the prepared media and add the music, link or sticker in Instagram.
  6. Share the Story, then check the live version, including its link destination and frame order.

The app setup and handoff steps follow Buffer's notification guide and Later's notification guide. Assigning an owner and checking the result are our recommended safeguards.

For an unattended publishing slot, use a version whose required features the tool can publish automatically. For a Story whose main purpose is interaction, reserve time for the final Instagram step.

Frequently asked questions

Will a reminder Story publish if I ignore the alert?

No. You still need to finish publication in Instagram. Later says a missed notification can be recovered through its mobile app. Later's notification FAQ.

Does automatic Reel music mean automatic Story music is available?

No. Buffer documents those capabilities separately. Its Facebook-connected Reel music feature does not extend to Stories. Buffer's music guide.

Can these schedulers guarantee a particular song or sticker?

No. Native feature availability can vary with account and region. Verify the required feature on the account that will publish. Later's availability notes.

What should I test before committing to a tool?

Run a small trial with your actual account type: one automatic photo Story, one automatic video Story, one reminder Story with a link and poll, and one with music. Record whether each publishes, who gets the alert, how long completion takes, and whether the live interactive elements work.
